What Does God Dream About?

Pastor Tom Brashears — Oct 23, 2011

I think that when God dreams, He dreams of PEOPLE! He doesn’t dream of programs, plans or procedures. He dreams about one thing…PEOPLE. People matter to Him. I think we're creating a place here where everyone matters, where everyone is accepted and valued, where everyone can build real relationships and where everyone can see, know and follow Christ.
Here are some practical things you can do every Sunday to welcome guests at Good Shepherd...

DON’T wait for someone to approach you.

  • DO approach people and introduce yourself.
  • DON’T expect people to think, act and be like you.

  • DO celebrate the unique diversity of each individual.
  • DON’T think you’re just a volunteer here.

  • DO know that you are Good Shepherd. What you do and say is a guest’s 1st Impression of the whole church.
  • DON’T think it’s the job of the Greeters to welcome people.

  • DO think it’s every ones job to reach out to welcome people.
  • DON’T find your clique of friends and only talk to them.

  • DO have some coffee after worship to meet someone new.

People Matter to God. People matter to us. “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30

Amen - I totally agree with you.
I love the way you summarized the importance of PEOPLE in the mind of God.  The given is: first our relationship with God and then our relationship with others.  The “life” we receive from and through the Lord is the Holy Spirit’s power (Christ in us, the hope of glory) working within us to empower us to love and be kind to others.
      God bless you.  :-)
