GSLC Seminarian Chris Baldwin Newsletter Update
Ryan Warne-McGraw — Jun 23, 2011
Hey GSLC Friends,
Carly and I just returned from visiting Southern California for a quick trip to see everyone. But, for those whom we were unable to connect with on our visit, here’s a brief update on what we’ve been up to…
I (Chris) have completed my first full year of academics at Princeton Theological Seminary. WOO!! It almost killed me (insert sarcasm/over exaggeration/eyeball rolling here) with the intense requirements at this school, but I am LOVING the challenges set before me. I wouldn’t have it any other way and definitely believe God has us here for a greater purpose. There are two more full-time years of study to complete the Master of Divinity degree.
“Year of Transition” Officially Over – Carly and I have entitled this past academic year as the “Year of Transition” for our lives. I re-learned how to be a full-time student again, and Carly began establishing her practice of physical therapy. We were able to endure the long cold winter, and now we’re learning how to live through the sticky, humid heat in the summer. The East Coast always keeps us on our toes, but we’re really loving this adventure together as we learn how to “Trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness” (Psalm 37:3 NASB) as individuals and as a couple. We feel as though the transition piece is now behind us and we look forward to establishing better relationships with people in our community here and within our marriage. Thank you so much for your prayers and support!
What’s Ahead For The Baldwins? Carly is now practicing physical therapy full-time at Jersey Central Physical Therapy & Fitness clinic in Edison, NJ (about 30-40 minute drive from our home). This is a huge blessing for us financially but it’s also exciting to have Carly practice what she has been trained to do since starting school! She will be focusing her attention on providing the best care possible to all of her patients. I (Chris) have a big year ahead. Along with a full load of classes, I have accepted a pastoral internship at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Princeton Hightstown, NJ, where I’ll be doing all of the daily in’s & out’s of being a pastor (with oversight from the mentoring pastor on staff). I have also been hired by Princeton Theological Seminary as a member of the Pastoral Ministry Team for the campus as an extension of the campus pastor’s office (1 of 3 students on the team). And, I am part of a Missional Theology concentrated course of study pilot cohort that is funded with a Lily Grant allowing me to focus my studies in the area of Missional Theology. I am excited by this upcoming year and ask that you continue to pray for us and support us in this time of preparation.
How Can You Pray For Us? Join Carly and I in praying for discernment and clarity of calling in ministry. I am currently focusing my preparation time with the emphasis of studies on parish ministry. Pray for God to continue to reveal direction and areas of growth necessary to Carly and me for serving Christ and the church. Also, continue to pray for financial support as we journey together preparing for ministry. Times are hard financially in general for everyone, and we trust in God’s provision during this time of study. We consider ourselves missionaries in preparation for being sent out both now and in the future. Thank you all for how you’ve supported us in the past and even right now as I write this update. You are all such a blessing to us and we miss you so much!!
Keep In Touch – We would love to keep in touch with you. Contact us whenever! Carly and I have a blog that we like to keep updated (http://chriscarlybaldwin.blogspot.com/) and we can also be contacted by email: chris.r.baldwin@gmail.com or cccbaldwin@gmail.com. We’re both on Facebook frequently and love receiving messages and notes from you all to keep us encouraged and affirmed on this journey. Or, feel free to write us a letter to our home address: 303 Emmons Dr. #5B Princeton, NJ 08540. Join us on this journey. Thank you for sending us from GSLC and it’s such a privilege to be the GSLC Seminarian!
Blessings & Peace,
Chris & Carly Baldwin
